The state of Maine yields some of the most drastic fluctuations in climate and its harsh winters force its residents to be of the hardiest caliber. With strong ties to the outdoors and unparalleled self-sufficiency, the people of Maine have adapted to their surroundings while learning to help and rely on each other. A statewide sense of community is shared throughout the counties and where there is trouble, help is not far. Being from Maine is not simply a geographical characteristic, it is a way of life that has seeped into one’s very core. With encroaching urbanization threatening the traditional practices of native Mainers, I hope to capture the elements that I have come to know as part of Maine life and the majesty of the state that we call home. We are a proud people who work hard and take pleasure in our accomplishments while always helping others to achieve their own goals. We are united by our state, but are connected by our customs. Being from a family that has resided in Maine for almost four centuries, I aspire to instill in the viewer an admiration and appreciation for this unique place.
