ACTIVISM | Domestic Violence 101
Workshop with Donna Ferrato

For the Activist Photographer this workshop will be a revolution in not just your life, but also, in the lives of the people you're photographing. And, that is a guarantee.

The goal is to produce a body of work similar to Living With The Enemy (Aperture, 1991) - a solo photography project that took ten years to create, in one week. We will be working in a battered women's shelter, in emergency rooms, alongside the police department, and with batterer's programs, all centrally located. Working closely with and under Ferrato's direction, you will help to create a cohesive and realistic picture of what happens to men, women, and children dealing with the complex issues of domestic violence. Together we will create an invaluable fundraising tool and an educational public awareness campaign for the local shelter.

Life coach and website designer, Dana Nunnelly, will keep minds and hearts flowing so we can work at top capacity and waylay personal issues which may arise due to the intense nature of this workshop. You will see real problems facing real people. The consequences will be clear. There is purpose to this workshop: the stakes are high, the rewards immeasurable.

There will be a rundown session regarding the weeks' events, including a discussion of the importance of model releases; all questions will be answered at Ferrato's studio. Then it's off to Long Island to begin this extraordinary project. Food will be covered. Living accommodations will be arranged. De-briefing and wrap party held on the beach. Application deadline: June 12, 2011, write info@donnaferrato.com for details and application. The deposit is required by June 15th. Due to the extensive pre-planning process with arrangements for the activism workshop, deposits are non-refundable.
