Project Text The Space Between Us delves into the intricate aspects of the human condition, highlighting the perpetual motion of humanity. While our movements can vary in pace—sometimes swift, other times languid—the finite space between two solid objects remains constant. It is essential to recognize that no two entities can occupy the same space simultaneously. My reflections center on the dynamic changes that occur in the spaces between individuals, as we navigate our surroundings. Our movement, whether walking, running, dancing, or driving, requires us to adjust our personal space according to the circumstances around us.
This adjustment is often made independently yet in concert with others, demonstrating our innate ability to avoid collisions. However, humanity's imperfection means that unexpected encounters can occur, even when we are well-prepared. Further exploring the human condition reveals the unconscious processes shaped by societal norms over time, influencing how we interact. Key elements include personal and conversational space, emotional distance and closeness, personality types (introverted versus extroverted), public speaking tendencies, and the phenomenon of mob mentality, which can lead to a loss of individual control in group settings. Additionally, eye contact and eye averting are crucial aspects of our interactions, reflecting deeper psychological dynamics.
