Yesterday, DC got its city back. The thousands of federal troops wearing uniforms without any identifying markings and their military vehicles are gone. And despite the remaining vestige—a threatening black fence circling nearly two miles around its center, the White House, where snipers still loom above on its rooftop, thousands of protestors blanket 16th Street below them. The only police presence among them are their own DC Police, appearing to be unarmed as directed by Mayor Bowser, while they freely intermingle with the protestors. The mood seems almost celebratory, because for now, they got their city back, and can stand united for change.
