Summary
A walk around my block in the heat of covid
It's May of 2020 in Brooklyn's Prospect Lefferts Gardens, four months after the announcement of Covid 19th in the US, the tulips have faded back into the ground, now covered in piles of debris. The cookouts, all day parties and bustling storefronts have been replaced with boarded up shops, and the unusually more regular display of firefighters and police officers checking in on buildings neglected by management during a global pandemic. My 18 month old son and I had our routine walk around the block every day after lunch, taking photos of our route, chatting about shapes and trees, and finally sitting down at Ciao Bella, a little coffee shop behind our building, where Marco, the owner, and drummer for Afro Dominicano and I would have a chinotto and chat about the changing neighborhood...and the local parrot
