Delpire & Co presents the Franco-Dominican artist, Karla Hiraldo Voleau, for the launch of her book, Another Love Story, published by Mörel Books The bookshop is delighted to welcome the Franco-Dominican artist for the launch of her book 'Another Love Story', published by Mörel Books, one year after her eponymous exhibition at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris. The event will be moderated by Clothilde Morette, Head of Programming at the MEP.
Another Love Storyhas its origins in a personal story. The artist presents a series of photographs and texts that reconstruct and replay the last months of her love affair with a man before the discovery of his double life. What do you do when you find yourself dispossessed of your history? Voleau decides to reappropriate this story, re-enacting different moments in their affair. With the help of a model, a look-alike of her former companion, whom she hires for the project, she reproduces, identically, the shots taken in the intimate setting of her relationship. The image fails to capture the truth of a relationship, and yields to the desire to expose the feeling of love that remains, in the end, elusive. About the Artist
Karla Hiraldo Voleau, (b. 1992), is a French-Dominican artist. She graduated from ECAL University of Arts and Design (Switzerland) in 2018, with her project Hola Mi Amol. Voleau combines performance and photography, using images and text to create personal and narrative series. Often, she becomes the main character in her series, aiming to explore the boundaries of human interactions, love, sexuality, friendship, social groups. Her goal is to discover the intersection and point of tension between ‘real life’ and art.
Initially, she delved into deconstructing stereotypes surrounding Dominican and Latino men. In her recent works, she focused on exploring gender and its visual representations, incorporating more performance art, evident in projects like ‘A Man in Public Space’ (2020) or her latest series, ‘Another Love Story’ (2022), which was inspired by a real-life heartbrake. All of these portraits and visual experiments contribute to her broader exploration of the female gaze.
