The Hunter becomes the Hunted
As of 18th June 2021, HE President YoweriKagutaTibuhaburwa Museveni instituted strict measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Some of these were the ban of public gatherings, the closure of non food markets, Kikuubo Lane in Kampala City and other crowded business centers. On 21st June 2021, the police and other security organs swung into action to enforce the directives.

On Monday 7th February 2022, Makerere University students decided to go up in arms to protest against the continued online learning that was meant to be an alternative in the lock down but continues to be enforced by Makerere University even amidst full re-opening of the economy by H.E YoweriKaguta Museveni.
Not only is online learning learning expensive for the students due to the high data rates but also causes social isolation which negatively impacts of the mental health of students. Furthermore, student face challenges such as inaccessibility of a stable Internet connection around campus and some students don't have smart phone or laptops to help them learn online

In order to ensure a smooth and transparent vote counting process, voters mobilized their resources and improvised with torch lights when electricity was unexpectedly shut down. Recognizing the importance of their votes being accurately and fairly counted, the voters cooperatively provided torch lights to an electoral commission agent who was responsible for tallying the votes.
With the torch lights illuminating the ballot counting area, the electoral commission agent diligently continued the task at hand. The agent, equipped with these makeshift lights, carefully scrutinized each vote and recorded the results. By leveraging these torch lights, the voters were doing their part to support a democratic process and ensure that their voices were heard.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the electoral commission agent persevered, thanks to the torch lights provided by the voters. The temporary power outage did not hamper the dedication of the agent or the commitment of the voters to participate in the electoral process. Together, they demonstrated resilience, resourcefulness, and a shared belief in the importance of democracy.
This incident serves as a testament to the determination of both voters and electoral commission officials to uphold the integrity of elections, even in the face of unforeseen challenges. It also highlights the collective responsibility of citizens to actively participate and protect their democratic rights.11/13/2021
