Alex Matzke (b. 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska) is an artist, educator, photographer, and welder based in Borikén—on the colony known as Puerto Rico. Alex grew up in rural, agricultural communities, knowing the farming methods their grandparents practiced were not the future. In 2021, Alex moved with their spouse to start a farm in rural Utuado; prior to this move Alex’s spouse lived much of his life in the diaspora & wanted to be part of the generation to return home. Before becoming a farmer, Alex worked as an adjunct professor.
