The highway tearing through the heart of the Amazon, 2016
"The highway tearing through the heart of the Amazon" is a project about the impact of a road in the buffer zone of Amarakaeri Reserve in Madre de Dios region, Peru. The report focuses on people, Machiguengas, and Harakmbut indigenous communities who live all around the reserve. This project also focuses on logging, gold mining, gasoline trafficking in the area, and the absence of the Peruvian state in order to control all these illegal activities.
These photos have been published in 2016, in the long-form report from Ojo Público. In 2017, this long investigative story won the Journalistic Excellence Award from the Inter-American Press Society (IAPA) in Category Journalism on the environment.
