Jeff Barrus joined the Pulitzer Center as Communications Director in 2016. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he has 20 years of experience in communications and digital marketing, with a strong emphasis on international policy.
Prior to joining the Pulitzer Center, Jeff served as deputy director of digital communications at the Atlantic Council, where he led the Council’s digital communications team and oversaw the Council’s website, social media, and email platforms. He also spent time at the Wilson Center, where he managed digital marketing and established the Wilson Center’s marketing automation system.
For 11 years, Jeff served in a variety of communications roles at Johns Hopkins University, including web and digital strategy manager of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and communications coordinator and webmaster of the International Reporting Project. Jeff began his career in 1998 at National Public Radio.
In addition to his professional work, Jeff is a longtime podcaster, who was interviewed by
The Washington Post and other outlets in 2004 about the birth of the medium. Working with an illustrator, he contributed the short story, "Rolling Thunder," to the graphic novel anthology,
District Comics: An Unconventional History of Washington, D.C. Kirkus described the story as "a tribute to Vietnam veterans told in a past/present narrative with dual, monochromatic palettes and a huge emotional punch."
