Photographer and university professor Scott Bennett will present his work in the upcoming group exhibition, Paisanografías, opening on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the State Center for the Arts, Tijuana (CEART Tijuana).
This eclectic exhibition brings together 36 photographers from Mexico and the United States, showcasing more than 130 photographs across a wide range of themes — from the U.S.–Mexico Borderlands, portraits, and landscapes to ceremonies, celebrations, experimental works, travel photography, fine art, and deeply personal projects. The opening reception will be a celebration of photography, art, and cultural dialogue, highlighting a vital binational collaboration in the cross-border region. Many of the participating photographers will be in attendance. Bennett will exhibit five photographs taken in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, adding an international perspective to the show’s diverse themes.
About Scott Bennett
Scott Bennett is a photographer and university professor based in San Diego, California. His work often explores themes of urbanization, migration, culture, and memory. In 2019, he completed a long-term documentary project centred on Latin America, focusing on urbanization, immigration, and coffee culture. He is currently working on "Conjuring My Cold War Demons," a project documenting his birthplace of Glasgow, Montana — home to the former St. Marie USAF base, where his father served as a radar navigator on B-52 bombers during the 1960s. Through stark landscapes and layered histories, Bennett’s work seeks stories infused with nostalgia, place, and personal memory. Bennett holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His deep connection to Latin America began at a young age and has shaped his career as both an academic and an artist. He has lived in Mexico, Guatemala, and Brazil, and his photography has been published by non-profit organizations including Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Plant with Purpose, Lemonade International, and Hope Unlimited for Children. Living in the U.S.–Mexico borderlands, Bennett brings a unique perspective to documenting cultural and geographic change on both sides of the border.
