Memory and fantasy are pervasive. As one experience drifts into the mind, another other sweeps in. Is it a memory, or simply a lingering fantasy, so recurrent as to seem real? Where is the separation? This series visualizes the meeting of memory and fantasy, and the impressions left behind.
My photography focuses on the figure and the experience of the body, and reflects on how the figure has been depicted throughout history. My work is usually formal, but this series experiments with depiction as a way to invoke emotion. Instead of shooting single static images, the film in my camera is only partially advanced after each shot. While my process is controlled, the resulting images center on the surprises in the extra-long negatives and overlapped exposures. For me, the unexpected nature of the images parallels the unexpected nature of fantasy and eroticism.
