This set of photos are from a very tragic time in our collective human history.
In the face of economic and social insecurity it becomes easy for some to fall prey to propaganda, decide on a common enemy, and blame all of their problems on that chosen enemy. This can manifest in the form of racism, bigotry, and taken to extremes has led to genocides, forced sterilizations, and deportations of what is perceived as “the other.”
There are political movements today with similar ideologies rooted in 20th-centuery fascist movements, and historically the forces that created the events around WWII is not an anomaly. The same pressures that can drive a society to these extremes can happen again; in the words of Winston Churchill “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
