The Vagrant West
These landscapes are self portraits. They show me. They proudly display mistakes I have made. And these mistakes work. Their imperfections make them valuable and impossible to recreate. Confidence in my materials and a visceral instinct allows me to celebrate these flaws and transform the images into more than landscapes. They are fleeting; they are inconsistent.
There is a level of exposure within these images that exploits their flaws. They are personal landscapes, though they were new to my eyes. A therapeutic release of control. To me, photography is an escape from my controlling nature. Then, the light is in control. Shoot on impulse, and observe.
These landscapes, then, exemplify this embrace of powerlessness.
