The Haudenosaunee at the Lacrosse World Championships
Summary
The Haudenosaunee Nationals Lacrosse Team are the only internationally recognized indigenous sports organization that competes on the world stage. In June they attended the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships in San Diego with the goal to get a gold medal. They went into the games with heavy hearts due to the passing of legendary Onondaga Nation stick maker Alf Jacques one week prior to the tournament. The team, under their new name, (formerly Iroquois Nationals for the last 40 years) went on to win the Bronze medal with two of their players voted Best in the World at their positions.
