I grew up to understand that the George wrapper is a big deal. First developed in France by the industrialist Hilaire de Chardonnet, today, much of the world’s George fabric is sourced from India. George fabric is made in India, but is exported to Africa in large quantities because it is so popular there especially for formal events and weddings It’s amazing how it has survived through centuries and kept many of its characteristic features untouched.
Exploring economic and social materialism within the context of the George fabric and the symbolisms associated with it.
