I grew up to understand that the George wrapper is a big deal. First developed in France by the industrialist Hilaire de Chardonnet, today, much of the world’s George fabric is sourced from India, and exported to Africa in large quantities. The George wrapper holds deep cultural and symbolic significance in Igbo heritage. Traditionally worn by women with puffed-sleeve blouses, two wrappers tied at the waist, and a headscarf, this fabric reflects a blend of indigenous and European influences.
