Each spring I look forward to the blossoming of the Redbud trees, even more than the Cherry Blossoms so proliferate in our area. Cherry Blossoms are no doubt beautiful and enticing, but the Redbud tree is different. Its blossoms appear before its leaves and even seem to grow straight out of its bark. Its color is bold in its shades of magenta and screaming pink. It is almost Suessian in character. Apparently, Redbud blossoms are edible and taste like green beans with lemony overtones. In fact, it's in the same family as peas. Interesting. I wouldn’t know, and now it’s too late, at least until next year.
I am often drawn to the land, nature and environment for inspiration, and love the genre of landscape photography. As a challange to myself, I decided to make a small portfolio of this vibrant and punchy tree. I chose to contrast its colorful flowers with the man-made environment to create a graphic effect.
