After eight years documenting the exhumation processes of mass graves from Franco's dictatorship in Paterna, Valencia, I am proud to announce the publication of my first photography book: "Punto Ciego."
From 1939 to 1956, the dictatorship executed 2,238 people in Paterna. Their only crime was being part of a union, a democratic political party, a teacher, a field laborer, or a member of their local council.
"Punto Ciego" sheds light on this history through close accompaniment of the families and forensic teams fighting to restore stolen dignity. The book follows the complex and deeply moving process of locating, exhuming, identifying, returning, and burying the remains.
It is also a statement on the necessity of photography: of the images once taken and kept, and of those we must continue to take and preserve.
