Manwar Ali

Manwar Ali, was one of the first influential propagandists in the UK for a radical Islamist message. Active in the 1980s and 1990s, he helped to radicalise “thousands” of young Muslims, encouraging many of them to travel to fight in wars in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Burma, Bosnia and Chechnya.

In 2010 he bought from the St Michael's Church in order to settle his charity community center but just one year later it was destroyed by a fire, the building was not insured so Manwar lost £350,000 he paid for the church out of his own life savings. But incredibly, he said that even if the police did manage to track down those responsible, he would rather invite them round for a cup of coffee than see them go to prison
