Public Project
Giza-Zoo-Collective
Summary
To document these emotions, the artists collaborated using photography, collage, and drawings in a shared sketchbook. For five days, this sketchbook moved from one artist to another between Cairo and alexandria , each documenting their feelings through visual art, creating a rich, collective reflection on the zoo. This evolving artistic process resulted in a unique collective sketchbook that was later exhibited in the Giza Collective's open studio.
The "Giza Zoo Collective" was hosted for an art residency throughout August 2024 at Medrar, where they explored the zoo’s history and transformation through their artistic lenses. During the residency, the collective organized various public events and activities, culminating in an open studio closing event that showcased the residency’s outcomes—artworks capturing the zoo’s past, present, and imagined future.
