Topics Spotlight, urban women, women in business, women working in Addis Ababa
In Ethiopia, 80 percent of the population resides in rural areas and women provide the majority of the agricultural labor in these communities. However, their contributions often go largely unrecognized and their fathers or husbands often restrict access to resources and community participation.

Portraits of Addis Ababa explores gender equality in Ethiopia. There has been a steady increase in female representation in education, politics and other fields. In urban areas; the number of women, who have greater access to education, health care, and are engaged in small and micro enterprises and production firms, has shown real progress. This project accelerates the improvements in women's status and how much they contribute to the touristic and general growth of Ethiopia.
