Gender bias is not only experienced by women, men also often get the same treatment. As experienced by Mamuk, it was not easy for him as a man to gain the trust to do bridal makeup according to Javanese customs. Traditional bridal makeup is one of the most complicated skills. Women may not necessarily be able to, let alone men. This stigma was denied by Mamuk, a (male) makeup artist.
Reflective questions that Mamuk asked:
"Do I have to be a woman so I can be more appreciated when I become a traditional bridal makeup artist?"
