The mayor of Warsaw RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski announced his start as opposition candidate in presidential election in Poland, just a month before the first round. In 5 days, he had gathered 1.6 million supporting signatures (100,000 is required).

After a very short and unfair campaign (the current president Andrzej Duda had been running it for several months with the government and public media on his side), he managed to go to the second round, when he finally lost to Duda. Trzaskowski collected over 10 million votes - this is the third result in the history of the presidential elections in Poland after 1989.
