Jessica Xiao is the Director of Communications and Strategic Engagement at The Asian American Journalists Association.
Jessica is the Director of Communications and Strategic Engagement at the Asian American Journalists Association, currently based in Washington, DC. She use the tools of organizational development, digital organizing, and design thinking to create sustainable ways for AAJA to scale and deepen its impact across stakeholders. She is also working on an oral histories project to collect and archive the legacies of AAPI journalists.
As a 2020 National Urban Fellow with a Masters in Public Policy Management from Georgetown University, McCourt School of Public Policy, Jessica was the Change the Story Narrative Strategist for the Climate Justice Alliance, producing their first podcast Stories from Home: Living the Just Transition.
Previously, she worked at the American Humanist Association, where highlights include running the publishing branch Humanist Press and convening the 2015 interfaith-secular conference for social justice. She has also worked as the Prison Book Club Manager at Free Minds Book Club and Writing Workshop, a literacy and reentry support organization serving incarcerated youth.
An avid writer, she gravitates towards highlighting insights into the human condition and weaving those individual stories together into something that can scale and impact society at large. Her writing can be found at Everyday Feminism, The Establishment, Huffington Post, TheHumanist.com, Climate Justice Alliance, and Medium.
