Vijay S. Jodha is a writer, filmmaker and a self-taught photographer based in Gurgaon, India. He has produced five books and his projects have been showcased in galleries, museums and festivals worldwide. They have received over 100 honours in 24 countries including 20 best film/director awards; grants from institutions like Sundance, Eurovision, Swiss Development Agency, Ford Foundation, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. His films have been broadcast on 75 channels worldwide including on BBC, CNN and Discovery.

Vijay has directed three photography-related films that have received dozens of honours and been screened at over 250 festivals in over 60 countries. His collaborative photo project about television in India was shown in galleries and museums worldwide, and described by The New York Times as “a beautiful series.” In 2007, Vijay was invited to curate a photo project at Nehru Centre, London to celebrate 60 years of Indian independence.

Two of his books and four films are in the U.S. Library of Congress, while one project is archived at OSA Budapest – world’s premier repository of materials dealing with human rights. International Confederation of NGOs has honoured Vijay with Media Citizen Award for using media to drive social change. In 2018 he was given the honour of presenting a film and addressing delegates from 193 countries at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The First Witnesses – Vijay’s ongoing photography project about India’s farming crisis, is the most widely seen and written about photo project from India in decades. The project has had over a dozen showings in India and overseas in the past five years including three months at Climate Museum Hong Kong and for a week at the world’s biggest climate event in New York. It is recipient of various honours including British Journal of Photography Decade of Change Best Series Prize.

In 2023 Vijay trained three differently abled youngsters in photography and contributed to India’s best every performance at International Abilympics in France. Royal Photography Society U.K. is presenting Vijay’s images in a group show at Museum of Gloucester in 2023. His work will also be seen this year in a 9-month long environmental photography group show presented by Good Planet Foundation and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation at Domaine de Longchamp, Paris.
