Workers sort used plastic bottles in a recycling factory. While it is convenient to consume drinks straight out of plastic bottles, the trash that accumulates in the process takes a huge toll on the health of our environment. Plastic bottles used to package water take over 1,000 years to biodegrade and, if incinerated, produce toxic fumes. Floating plastic waste, which can survive for thousands of years in water, serves as mini transportation devices for invasive species, disrupting habitats. Plastic buried deep in landfills can leach harmful chemicals that spread into groundwater. The emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases will be reduced if recycling takes place in the production of new plastics. So, Recycling plastics is the best way to make the environment safe.
