Mohammed was born in Ranya. He joined the Iraqi army and trained for a week at a training camp. He and his companions were sent directly to Jaafar, a border area between Iraq and Iran. Before the war, he was told he would be stationed in Basra, Iraq. But on 5/24/1982 he was taken to the front lines instead. In the war, Iranian forces gained the upper hand; 14,000 Iraqi soldiers were taken prisoners of war. Mohammed was imprisoned for nine years and still suffers from cancer caused by exposure to the cold and damp torture in prison. He died in 2022.
