Last year was one of reemerging from a very sheltered few years of pandemic life. Students and fans returned to Pauley Pavilion at UCLA, media were allowed to return to the floor and the field, and I was able to start photographing more events again!
I was honored to be awarded PPAGLA's Best UCLA Sports Photo again this year, as well as being a finalist in the gymnastics category of the World Sports Photography Awards!
At Getty, I worked on major awards shows like the Oscars and Grammys, and also helped edit the World Athletics Championships with the Getty Sport team in July. I fan-girled as I photographed Allyson Felix TWICE in her final professional season, and witnessed Olympian Jordan Chiles first season as a Bruin on UCLA's gymnastics team.
I also created some incredible videos for Getty Images' social channels: Serena Williams Retires & Western US Faces Mega Drought are a few I'm quite proud of.
In October, exactly seven years to the day since the last time I photographed them, I was able to photograph the Los Angeles Dodgers game! I've been to a number of Los Angeles Angels games in the last few years, but just one Dodger game. I'll mark my calendar for October 2, 2029 for the next one!
Photographing Angel City Football Club in their inaugural season, for the team, was a highlight. A professional women's soccer team in LA was long overdue, and several sold-out games in their first season proved it!
And of course, I made it out to the beach a few times for some good surf photography sessions in Huntington Beach, Topanga Beach, and Malibu. And can't forget a major personal victory -- I ran my first marathon last March!
In 2023 professionally, I'm looking forward to photographing all of UCLA's home gymnastics meets (and hopefully the NCAA Regional meet at UCLA too!), hitting the beach more often, more creative and unique opportunities, and more sporting events to photograph!
Personally, I hope 2023 brings more healthy running and racing, more visits with family and friends, and a return to international travel.
