Summary
For four years, Matthias Koch lived in Mexico, a country where every detail tells a story, where light plays with the shadows of both ancient and modern histories, shaping his perception. This is not a postcard-perfect Mexico he presents here, nor an attempt at documentation. It is a personal exploration, an inner dialogue between this land and himself, woven with fascination and unease.

Mexico is a land of contrasts: the poetry of its landscapes mingles with echoes of latent tensions. His images carry these oppositions within them: exuberance and silence, radiant beauty and a diffuse melancholy. They do not aim to explain, but to feel. This series serves as a journal of impressions for him, an emotional cartography of his time in this country. It reflects both his moments of wonder and the doubts it awakened in him.

Mexico is thus an invitation to step into this in-between space, where reality gives way to an ambivalent reverie, where photography becomes a visual poem.Mexico — MATTHIAS KOCH
The pictures in the series presented here were taken during a long stay in Mexico, the editing only seven years later. The necessary time to gain distance, distance to a country and a culture in which violence is omnipresent, death is not a taboo...
