Old time low-wage workers with modern day low-wage workers. The painting* depicts 'mondine', the seasonal rice paddy workers that were common in Italy – especially in the Po river area in the north – until the first half of 20th century; their job was to remove all the weeds among the rice plants at the rice fields standing in knee-high water.n front of the painting one of the nowadays very common sight in cities; two food delivery riders who also are paid little, and their working conditions, protection and guarantees are far from ideal.The place is Camera del non lavoro, "Chamber of non labour"; the place houses a trade union directed exactly to all the temporary workers but also anyone else who might not have been able to get help through the conventional channels.Two food delivery riders having a break at the Camera del non lavoro.
