Luis Javier Maguiña (Huaraz, Áncash, Peru, 1999) is a documentary photographer and Audiovisual Communication student at PUCP. His work is situated at the intersection of image, territory, and power, addressing themes such as human rights, historical memory, structural inequality, and the climate crisis. From an ethic of accompaniment, he conducts visual research in rural and urban communities in Peru. He has documented protests and collective mourning in Ayacucho, Andahuaylas, Cusco, Juliaca, and Lima, with an emphasis on the mobilizations of 2022 and 2023, as well as working closely with families of victims of state repression. He has collaborated with media outlets such as OjoPúblico, IDL-Reporteros, Salud con Lupa, Reuters, EFE, and El País. In 2024, he was nominated for the Gabo Awards and the Joop Swart Masterclass at World Press Photo. He is currently developing personal projects that explore his identity through photography and other visual forms.
