Erik Makic

Erik Makic is a trained scientist and visual storyteller currently working as a Photo Production Coordinator at National Geographic Magazine. Erik has a passion for scientific communication and for public education. Having done ecological research in southern Patagonia and is preparing to defend his masters project at the Newhouse School of Public Communication, Erik is working to capture complex stories in visually interesting ways. Focusing mainly on environment, ecology, research and wildlife, Erik’s work has been published in multiple school and public news sources over the past four years. Erik is constantly interested in learning more about the complex relationships within the environment and learning about solutions that mitigate, stop, or solve environmental destruction. Currently residing in Washington DC, Erik hopes to return home to Colorado to continue his education as a scientist in the form of research or related PhD. program. Continuing to bridge the gap between scientific literacy and public understanding in our increasingly visual world.
