Christmas in Ta Kandja
I think we all need to think about the word 'home' once in a while. Especially at Christmastime. Most have somewhere to come home; some have amazing ones, perfectly tended ones. But some don't.
There's actually millions upon millions of people who don't. My series from the refugee detention center at Ta Kandja, Malta, shows som of them - the prisoners who have fled their African homelands to find something better. They get stuck in the concrete detention centers for the duration of a year. It becomes their first home in Europe.
These are the pictures from when they celebrate their holiday in the detention center, with a few decorations and a cardboard cross.
This is how they celebrate Christmas.
