"Amherst 1881 - A Century Before Me" is a window into the town of Amherst, exactly 100 years before my birth. This project has allowed me to explore the landscapes, architecture, and everyday materials that shaped Amherst’s community in 1881, celebrating the rich tapestry of nature and history.
Designed as a giant postcard when looking in from the front window, this display offers a visual journey through time, merging photography with sculptural elements created from both natural and manmade materials. The mix of plants, glass, and wood symbolizes the coexistence of tradition and progress, while geometric frames extend beyond conventional boundaries to reflect the town’s dynamic blend of old and new.
This project isn’t just about what Amherst was; it’s about how history continues to shape us today. It’s a playful, thoughtful glimpse into a time long past, but with echoes that still resonate in the streets and spaces of modern Amherst. Enjoy the journey!
