Antwerp’s MAS, where stories are encased in a cascade of color and light. Nestled in Antwerp’s harbor district, the Eilandje, the Museum aan de Stroom stands as a beacon of culture and history. Designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, this architectural marvel stitches the city’s tapestry of past and present. The MAS’s facade, a rich tapestry of Indian sandstone, parades hues from brown to purple, red to orange. Each color catches the light, a spectrum of stories in each fold of stone. The building’s form, a 62-meter-high tower with boxes stacked over ten floors, creates a vertical playground for the eye. Between these layers, galleries with undulating glass invite visitors to gaze out at changing views of the city and harbor, blending the outside with the in. This undulating glass curtain before the exhibition rooms serves as the building’s rhythmic break, ensuring that the MAS is not just seen but deeply felt.
