Jesse Holmes at his squatter cabin in Fairbanks, AK in 2007. I followed him around for a while as he was trying to find a way to move into a subsistence lifestyle. I was so intrigued by his story, how he hopped trains and found himself at the end of the American road system, in Fairbanks. He taught me that grocery stores throw out perfectly good food, that you can find most things at the dump and the value of persistence and being a hard worker. Now he's gone on to be a famous dog musher, with a spot on a TV show called Life Below Zero and a cobble of dogs somewhere out in the bush. He is living the life he dreamed of.â â €
