Kreminna Internat Portraits
The school is 30 Kilometers from the front line in the war between Ukraine and Russia. In 2014 Russian troops and Russian backed separatists were at the edge of the city, forcing the children to hide in the cellar from nearby shelling. The proximity to the war has been a mixed blessing for the school. The heightened attention on the region has allowed the director to increase awareness of the difficulties facing the institution. This awareness has led to an great influx of resources and volunteers. However, it has made it difficult for many of the students whose families reside in the occupied territories.
in May 2018, a group of Ukrainian volunteers and myself conducted a photo workshop, providing the children with cameras and instruction.
