Pamela Chen is a creative director who began her career as a photojournalist with a concentration in mathematics, a path which continues to shape her work exploring the intersection of culture, design and technology. Over the past 15 years, she has been a builder at three institutions: Instagram, National Geographic and George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.

She has the unique distinction of running both of the two largest organizational social media accounts in the world between 2012-2018, during a pivotal era when platforms scaled from human-powered content discovery to algorithmic content personalization.

She is currently the inaugural Human-Centered AI and JSK Journalism Fellow at Stanford University working with viral creators to ultimately help design better algorithmic recommendation systems.
