During lockdown, art was an escape. A lifeline. It became equally apparent how much we depend on art without realising, and what life would be like without it, when galleries, film sets, museums, gigs, theatres and cinemas were cancelled or closed indefinitely. Coronavinyl records a small but important daily release, made in a unique time and space, as I stepped outside of my suddenly confined world and looked back in. Daily structure, fresh air, creative expression. It is a visual manifestation of the crossing off of days on a calendar, or the strike on the wall of a cell, which at times is how the restrictions of a full lockdown began to feel. On March 23rd 2020 I started choosing a record sleeve each evening, placing it on display in the living room window, and photographing it from the street. Sometimes my choice of LP was instinctual, and often it seemed magically to blend perfectly with my own mood that day, or the prevailing sentiment around me as the unknown continued to unfold before us all.

* I finished this series on Sunday May 17th after 56 days. The following day, May 18th, Ireland entered Phase 1 of its roadmap out of lockdown.
