Far from the postcard image of its neighbors Prague, Budapest or Krakow, Bucharest is a beloved or rather poorly known in the circle of capitals of Eastern Europe. The post-89 transition seems to be a permanent state, where changes are sometimes brutal, sometimes absent. Bucharest seems to be in the image of Romanian society, a collage with strong contrasts, where internal forces oppose ideas and feelings from yesterday, today and tomorrow.
This essay proposes to draw a contrasting portrait of Romanian society, with the playground of  Bucharest daily life and its surroundings, between an old generation sometimes jostled by an uncertain future, which appears brutal and a young generation free from all ties to the recent past.
