The thirty-five-ton station is a unique scientific facility, unparalleled the world over – its equipment, transportability, and capability of autonomous submersion and resurfacing outmatch even the Aquarius station used by NASA.
The DeepLab enables research in the human psyche, stress, and cognitive functions when exposed to extreme conditions and environments, as well as stress-strain properties of materials under increased pressure and moisture.
Its singularity lies in the fact that the crew, deployed underwater for weeks, cannot resurface speedily in case of any problems due to the danger of the so-called caisson disease (decompression sickness).
The lab thus allows for faithful simulation of space missions in the environment of the universe.
