I first learned about the grant from Sarah Leen in 2019 during my visit to Natgeo headquarter at DC, but I waited until I found a story I truly wanted to dedicate myself to. That moment finally arrived with my current project, and I am deeply grateful to have received this grant, allowing me to bring this important story to life.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my NatGeo family, especially Sana and David, for motivating me and giving me the confidence to present my work on stage at the National Geographic Summit. Standing there, sharing the project of the community , was a moment of immense pride—and to top it off, celebrating with fresh snowfall afterward felt like a gift from the universe itself.
A special thanks to my love and Satellite—you have been my unwavering support for the past three years, even when no one else was there. Without your encouragement, I don’t think I could have made it this far. I am beyond grateful that we can finally work together on this project, side by side.
To the community I live with, thank you. Without your support, this project would not have been possible. Your kindness and strength have made this place feel like home, and I know your blessings are always with me. This is not just where I work; it is where I belong.
I am also deeply grateful to the Vital Impacts mentorship, Acacia , and ami vitale —your guidance has been invaluable in shaping my journey. And last but certainly not least, Ralf, thank you for always believing in me and supporting me through it all.
This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I am excited for what lies ahead. Together, we will continue to tell stories that matter.
With gratitude and warmth,
Ranita Roy
