National Geographic: 2021 The year in pictures

My photo captures a very painful, horrible moment that shows that in 2021 we are still witnessing these acts of xenophobia and racism. Thanks to the power of photography, I have understood that all of our effort in the field documenting these injustices can achieve important changes. After these pictures were published, the United States government suspended these immigration officers on horseback who tried prevent the migratory flow in a humiliating way.
Today there is an investigation underway by the CBP, and the U.S. special envoy for Haiti said he wanted to resign because of the inhumane treatment that was seen in these images. We don’t always get to photograph beautiful things, and sometimes I get depressed for witnessing these type of acts, but all that happened after these photos were published inspires me to keep photographing because our work is extremely necessary.
