Sona Hovsepyan reports on the Armenian Prisoners of War still held by Baku

In Meduza's feature, The Prisoners and the Peace Deal, journalist and Ronak trainee Sona Hovsepyan explores the plight of Armenian detainees in Azerbaijani custody. Nearly a year after the last prisoner exchange, at least 23 Armenians, including civilians, remain imprisoned, facing allegations of terrorism and espionage. Despite peace negotiations, Azerbaijan’s stance has yet to include prisoner release. As COP29 approaches in Baku, families of these detainees hold onto hope, while human rights groups continue to raise concerns about due process violations and ill-treatment, spotlighting the human cost of regional conflicts.
