Sandra Ramírez Giraldo is a visual storyteller, Researcher, and journalist. Over the past years, she has dedicated herself to building collective memories, persistently striving to celebrate the everyday and portray life as a form of resistance. As part of the Focos Narrativos Collective and in collaboration with the Museo Casa de la Memoria in Medellín, she worked as a photographer and workshop leader on “Te Recuerdo, Te Presiento”, a retrospective on enforced disappearance told through the voices of women victims of Colombia’s armed conflict. She has taught photography and memory workshops in rural areas of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Bolivia, as well as in Medellín’s Youth Communication Seminar with the project “Latidos de Ciudad” and in the Commune 7 Photojournalism course with the city's School of Communications. Her practice has led her to collaborate on collective projects such as Willasqayki and N.N. Photographers in Peru, La Tinkuna in Bolivia, Pressenza in Ecuador, Women in Photography, and Vital Impacts. In 2017, she developed her project “Medellín a Ciegas”, celebrating the lives of visually impaired individuals and exploring the city through other senses, a project that won the Estímulos para el Arte y la Cultura grant from Medellín's Department of Culture. In 2018, alongside writer Yeison Medina, she published the photopoetry book “JALLALLA”, a portrait of the Andes and its multifaceted landscapes. That same year, she received special recognition in the Mujeres Jóvenes Talento contest for her work in social, political, and community leadership. In 2021, she won the Sustainability Champion Photo Contest by 5 Media Magazine. Between 2019 and 2023, she worked as a social media manager and journalist for El Viajero latinamerican magazine and advised organizations on social media strategies and content management. Since 2021, she has been a workshop leader and cultural manager for the Muyuy Tejiendo Tribu project on Isla Amantaní, Peru, focusing on conscious education in rural areas with an emphasis on sustainability and gender equity. In 2024, she participated in the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes program and became an artist-in-residence with Residencia Juntxs: Estrategias Colectivas para el Cuidado del Agua through Platohedro and the Festival de la Tigra, where she developed her project “Las Memorias de Elena”.
