My little sister.
At night, before falling asleep, the little girl would quietly sit next to her father and ask, "Father, why don’t the bricks we make build a home for us?" And the father, with a gaze heavy with the dust of hard days, would simply reply, "One day, my daughter. One day."
One evening, as the sun set, the girl, tired from work, looked up at the sky. The sun, like another kiln, slowly disappeared behind the mountains. She turned to her older brother and said, "One day, we will make something from this earth and fire so no girl will ever work here again." Her brother, with a weary but genuine smile, whispered, "You will be the first, my little sister."
