About
Andréa Tavares is an emerging documentary photojournalist, born in Brazil, interested in the intersection between real life, art and social change. Her work uses photography to witness social problems and encourage people - silent by countless reasons - to raise their voices. She delves into the search of injustices, environment and life in one of the most violent cities in Brazil. Her background in newspapers and curious student all inform her eye and her interests as a storyteller.
Andréa studied journalism and communications at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. She had a poor childhood and never took any photography course, but the need to tell stories made her save money and buy a camera. Thats how her connection with photojournalism started.
