Sprinkling of kpokpoi in Osu, Accra.

Homowo festival is celebrated by the Ga-Adangbe ethic group. The sprinkling of kpokpoi during the Homowo Festival is a sacred ritual of the Ga people, a way of honoring ancestors and deities. It carries with it memory and gratitude, recalling survival after a great famine and celebrating resilience through harvest. Chiefs and elders move through the community, sprinkling the fermented corn dish to connect the living with the dead, to remind us of continuity. The festival is a celebration with drumming, dancing, feasting. Where families and friends gather, and the community comes together.
