OPEN CALL: UNVEILED VISIONS MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY TRAINING
FOTEA and the International Labour Organization (ILO) invite youths between the ages of 18 and 35 living in and around Rhino, Imvepi, Nakivale refugee settlements and urban youth refugees based in Kampala and their host communities to join us in a photography training titled:
"Unveiled Visions: Decent work and social justice through my lens."
The training is supported by the 'Partnership for Improving Prospects for Forcibly Displaced Persons and Host Communities (PROSPECTS)', generously supported by the Government of the Netherlands bringing together the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), UNICEF, UNHCR and the World Bank.
The ILO PROSPECTS Programme plays a key role in the promotion of decent work and focuses on strengthening local economic development and improving employability by equipping refugees and host communities with better and more relevant skills to enter local labour markets and to access enterprise development opportunities.
Interested parties should also have an interest in exploring and documenting either of the following ILO PROSPECTS themes; employment, gender, entrepreneurship, working conditions, rural economy, agri-business, start-ups and innovations, and peaceful coexistence.
Participants who fulfil the criteria will undergo a week-long training which will give them technical & theoretical photography skills and culminate in the production of a photography project. The top 10 projects will feature in an exhibition and coffee table book.
Base Requirements:
- Applicants must have Identification documentation in the form of a National Identity card, Drivers License, or a Refugee Identity card.
- Applicants should be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Applicants must have access to a smartphone
- Should have a minimum of 'A' level education, with working knowledge of how to navigate the internet. Some working experience and a basic level of technical photography skills would be welcomed but not required.
Applicants must submit:
- A portfolio - please share a pdf of 10 - 20 of your best images.
- A short concept note (between 200 and 400 words) on the theme you're interested in exploring. Please consider which of the previously shared themes is important to you, or triggers and inspires your creativity? What do you wish to explore and think is important for others to get to know more about? This can be submitted as a pdf or word document.
